Recent misuse of my work by Fox News

Uncategorized

In a distracting turn of events that overshadows the hard work done by me and my colleagues, and overshadows legitimate concerns by protesters, Fox News has superimposed portions of my work to create misleading imagery for use on their news site. This is unethical. It disrespects the work done by me and my colleagues, and wastes our time in dealing with the fallout. It also reframes the conversation about protests happening in Seattle, in Minneapolis, and in cities worldwide. Let this be a brief side conversation before we return to witnessing an historic struggle for justice taking place. Have a look at this article in The Seattle Times and see the screenshot below. I’m happy that Fox News removed the images after the Times’ reporting. Fox News also issued a statement, which contained inaccuracies as explained in the Times article. (Update: Coverage has spread in TIME, The New York Times, and in many other outlets across the U.S. and around the world.)

The zone includes the blocks surrounding the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct, which was the site of violent clashes with Black Lives Matter protesters, who have continued to demonstrate in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
