The Influence of Religion on International Politics Conference Photo

My work, Seattle, Still photography, University of Washington

I spent another day clinging onto my history of six years of University of Washington education while photographing a very interesting conference today for the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies held on campus in the Walker Ames room in Kane Hall. The conference, in honor of Dr. Daniel Chirot, was titled The Influence of Religion on International Politics. Below, Professor Paul Froese of Baylor University presents his work, Religion’s Influence on American Politics From a Global Perspective. He had some very very intriguing insight into Rick Santorum and the rest of the Republican presidential candidates, which was especially timely for me since I am in the middle of covering the campaigns as they roll through Washington state.

Rick Santorum Tacoma Photos

My work, photojournalism, Still photography

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum battled Occupy Tacoma hecklers for just about his entire speech at a campaign stop in Tacoma, Washington tonight. He said, “get a job,” among other things to a small group that yelled and chanted for nearly 30 minutes. Two of the protestors were dragged away and arrested by police. Police used a tazer on at least one protestor. Santorum supporters physically tussled with the protestors and tensions remained high throughout the event.

Santorum touched on many other topics while visiting a state that just legalized gay marriage earlier in the morning. Santorum rallied gay marriage opponents only hours after Washington State Governor Christina Gregoire signed the state’s gay marriage bill nearby in the capitol, Olympia.

Seattle Ferry Pictures | Seattle Photographer David Ryder

My work, Nature, Seattle, Still photography, Travel

Here are a few scenic Seattle ferry pictures for you to enjoy. Hopefully the bottom one displays OK on your screen; it’s a little dark but it’s my favorite. Just at dusk I was heading to Edmonds from Kingsgate on the “Puyallup” boat when I spotted Mount Rainier just barely visible in the distance. Of course, a ferry was on its way and it was only a minute or two until the two images lined up well enough to make a decent photo. As always, thanks for looking.
